Swell Life

Swell Life

The Swell Life is a docu-soap produced by Oprah several summers ago. At that time, I was one of the Sound Technicians on a video production at Campland-on-the-Bay. There Izzy Paskowitz ran a surf camp for kids during the summer. His autistic son, Isaiah, who loves romping on the water, is the one who inspired Izzy to create the camp. On Wednesdays the camp caters to autistic children for free. I dropped in during the middle of a 12-week reality show shoot for the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN).

Do you remember AMC Date Night? AMC Date Night was a clever way for AMC to add interest to classic movies. Layered between the movie and commercial interruptions these “bumpers” featured a guy or a gal looking for a date. During each “bumper,” this guy or gal would be asking questions of a “candidate.” By the end of the movie, that guy or gal would choose which of four hotties they wanted to have a date with.

Owen and George (the voices of Marmaduke and Carlos the Cat, respectively) sat and spoke about their collaboration on the movie on the sands of Imperial Beach.  Only moments before, the annual surf dog contest took place.

Broadcast Video Crew – The Stolen iPhone

A few years ago, Inside Edition called us to interview Kenneth Schmidgall and Greg Torkelson, the boys who retrieved Kenny’s stolen iPhone from the thief who led them on a merry chase to three different locations.  Even the Huffington Post covered the story which many people enjoyed because of the obvious vigilante slant, in that creepy thief gets what’s coming to him.

Crystal Pyramid Productions was tapped by the PBS News Hour a few years ago to videotape Pulitzer-Prize-winning San Diego Poet Rae Armantrout at her home in San Diego. As a poet myself, I notice that poetry seems to be taking a front seat these days at some very interesting venues, among them, the PBS News Hour.

One of Patty’s most enjoyable video productions of the year involved placing a lavalier mic on Scott Eastwood (the handsome son of Clint Eastwood) for Extra!  Scott will soon appear in a Nicholas Sparks (“The Notebook”) adaptation of “The Longest Ride.”  Viewers, get your hankies out.
