Pensacola Wings of Gold Back Story

The first season of Pensacola Wings of Gold focused on four young Marines joining an elite special unit led by Colonel Kelly. The second and third seasons focused on Colonel Kelly as the senior instructor for a group of aspiring Marine fighter pilots, notably “Burner,” “Spoon, and “Ice.”As described in the IMDB, on the show, set at Pensacola’s famed Naval Air Station (but filmed in San Diego), Colonel Bill Kelly is the newly appointed leader of four young officers selected to form an elite military task force.

They are a multi-skilled group comprised of a fighter pilot, helicopter pilot, demolitions expert and infantry reconnaissance specialist. However, complicating the Colonel’s task is his strained relationship with his 19-year-old daughter and Bobby Griffen’s romantic interest in her. The colonel himself must also cope with his own interest in Dr. Valerie West, a civilian doctor working at the base hospital.

Location, Location, Location

San Diego’s Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, Naval Training Center San Diego and Ocean Beach all figured prominently in the show, even though the setting was supposedly Pensacola, Florida.

The Crystal Pyramid Productions broadcast television video crew met and interviewed Cindy Margolis (“Holly”) Barbara Niven (“Kate”) and Kenny Johnson (“Burner”).  We set up the interviews in the shade next to the fish shack that was featured as a cafe in the show.

The Lovely Barbara Niven

As we learned from visiting Barbara Niven’s website, she was positively living her dreams! At the time, she was one of Hollywood’s busiest actresses. She served on the National Board of Directors for the Screen Actors Guild. She is still a popular speaker who joined the speaking faculty of Brian Tracy’s iLearningGlobal.

Consequently, Barbara is living proof that anyone can make his or her dreams come true, at any age. She has said, “Every moment you have a choice, to move toward your dream or away from it.” Her motto? “Don’t settle for less than wonderful in your life – and don’t give up five minutes before the miracle!”

Barbara created the breakthrough ACT as if! system to help you put own your dreams into action. Using acting techniques, it helps you put the Law of Attraction to work for you immediately, in both your personal and professional life.

In between film and speaking assignments, Barbara is in demand as an acting and presentation coach. She teaches speaking techniques, audition preparation and on-camera skills to a wide range of clients.

We, the broadcast television segment production crew, certainly noticed how sparkly and positive Barbara was throughout her interview. And why not? It was a perfectly beautiful day in sunny Ocean Beach, California.

That fish shack no longer stands, by the way.  That’s because the property owner sold it off and it’s now a condo complex overlooking the ocean.

Progress, eh?
