Beautiful female characters at 2012 San Diego Comic Con

Whenever we work as a broadcast video production crew at the San Diego Comic Con, the city’s largest convention, I always bring my camera so I can capture some unusual behind-the-scenes images. You see everything from Klingons and Predators to Avatars and lots of sexy wenches. And who doesn’t love BTS photographs? So here are a few pics

I shot on and around the teeming floors of the San Diego Convention Center that year.

When you see a bevy of female costumed characters, you must stop and shoot.  They spent a lot of time and care on their costumes.  The SD Comic Con 2012 was the place for them to shine.

I wasn’t sure about what character this was; just a guy in Iraq or Afghanistan War camouflage with a machine gun and red goggles.  By the way, there is usually a very long line at the beginning of the day at the “Weapons Check” booth where costumed characters much check all weapons.  Most are approved, but some are confiscated.

The Silver Surfer and his surfboard attracted a lot of attention from mostly male photographers, interestingly enough.

This man was clever enough to turn his motorized wheelchair into a dragon with wings. Only disabled people and toddlers are allowed to ride on wheels at the San Diego Convention Center during the Comic Con. Video crews with heavy camera, sound and lighting gear are expected to tote it on their shoulders.

San Diego Comic Con Predators arrive

A gang of Predators, including a female warrior, grabbed a lot of attention.  And they clearly focused on costume details.  Good job!
