Young Dubliners – Trekking Ireland with the Celtic Rockers

We appreciate all things Irish. Note that green beer actually is not really an Irish custom after all, it turns out.  Consequently, we wanted to share the story of how we followed the Young Dubliners in Ireland.

In 2008, the Crystal Pyramid Productions production video crew went on location to the United Kingdom. And there they followed The Young Dubliners in Ireland as they toured Dublin, Waterford, Kinsale, Killarney and Ennis.  Consequently, there were plenty of Guinness brews to be had. And we learned what a good pour was versus a poor pour.

Indeed, the green meadows dotted with sheep and all the castles were outstanding.

Patricia Kathryn Mooney, our producer, learned quite an important lesson. And that lesson? Even while bearing a completely Irish name, “If you’re not born in Ireland, then you’re only a Paddy Irish.” Ouch.

Introduction: Joining the Young Dubliners in Ireland

Our hearts pounded with excitement as we embarked on this once-in-a-lifetime journey to Ireland. We accompanied the legendary Young Dubliners. They are a Celtic Rock band that has captivated audiences around the world. Indeed, we were eager to immerse ourselves in the music, culture, and natural beauty of this enchanting land.

Exploring Dublin: A Vibrant City and Trim Castle

Our adventure began in Dublin, a city pulsating with life and history. The cobblestone streets echoed with the melodies of street musicians, creating an atmosphere of infectious energy. We wandered through the vibrant neighborhoods. There we absorbed the rich tapestry of Irish culture and indulging in the warmth of traditional pubs. During our time in Dublin, we couldn’t resist the allure of Trim Castle, one of Ireland’s oldest and most impressive castles. Standing proudly against the skyline, it held the echoes of centuries past. We marveled at its grandeur and imagined the dramatic scenes from the movie “Braveheart” that were filmed within its ancient walls.

Journey to Waterford: Dublin Mountains and Sally Gap

Leaving Dublin behind, we embarked on a picturesque journey through the Dublin Mountains and the stunning Sally Gap. The rugged beauty of the mountains enveloped us, and we couldn’t help but be captivated by the panoramic views of rolling hills and lush green landscapes. Nature seemed to sing its own melody, harmonizing with the anticipation building within us.

Luxury at Faithlegg Manor: A Historic Retreat

Arriving in Waterford, we were welcomed by the regal embrace of Faithlegg Manor, a meticulously restored 18th-century mansion that served as our luxurious retreat. The manor exuded elegance and history, transporting us to a bygone era. It became our sanctuary, a place of respite after days filled with adventure and excitement.

The Magical Performances: Immersed in Celtic Rock

As dusk settled over Ireland, we eagerly gathered to witness the Young Dubliners’ electrifying performances. Indeed, the air crackled with anticipation. And the stage came alive with an energy that was palpable. The band’s fusion of traditional Irish tunes and contemporary rock ignited a fire within us, and we surrendered ourselves to the magic of the music.

Capturing the Energy: Videography by Mark Schulze

To ensure that the essence of these unforgettable performances would be forever etched in our memories, the talented camera operators, Mark Schulze and Patty Mooney, skillfully captured the raw energy and passion of the Young Dubliners on film. Mark, armed with his discreet yet powerful Canon HV20, preserved every heart-pounding moment, allowing us to relive the thrill of the performances whenever we desired.

The Beauty of the Irish Countryside: Green Meadows and Castles

Beyond the bustling city and the pulsating rhythm of the music, we ventured into the tranquil embrace of the Irish countryside. Green meadows stretched as far as the eye could see, speckled with grazing sheep, while majestic castles stood as guardians of Ireland’s storied past. It was as if we had stepped into a realm of timeless beauty and ancient tales.

The Power of Music: Connecting with Fellow Fans

One of the most remarkable aspects of our journey was the sense of community and connection we found among fellow fans and travelers. We raised our glasses in unison, toasting to the shared love of music and the Young Dubliners. Laughter and stories flowed freely as we bonded over our mutual passion and reveled in the joyous atmosphere that permeated every gathering.
