19th Century Church

Gattopardo Café (‘Leopard Café’) is located in the heart of Milano.  It is a 19th Century church that was converted into a night club in late 2001.

This was one of the highlights of our journey to Italy.

Our friend who brought us there was a high-fashion model who knows people.  And so, just like in a corny situation comedy, two heavily-muscled bouncers beckoned her inside, while Mark and I were told to wait outside.  “Don’t worry,” Nicol told us, “I come get you!”

Gorgeous People of Milan

As we waited, we watched, wide-eyed, as a stream of gorgeous people walked in.  It wasn’t long before Nicol returned with an acquaintance.  His very presence seemed to part the sea of bouncers and beautiful people, and we all strolled inside the Gattopardo.

We gasped as we entered, because it was a cathedral that was now a nightclub discotheque.  A huge chandelier hung from the center of the event space.  Later in the evening, we would watch, mesmerized, as it was lowered down, and then raised back up.  Quite a feature!

As large as this space was, it slowly and surely filled with people.  Apparently, this is the place to come on New Year’s Eve, and you can see why.  It’s a very exclusive space where, once inside, you feel quite special.

We found a lovely spot where we were able to sit down and have a nice view of the chandelier, the DJ and the vibrant crowd.

Gattopardo Milan

What a treat! Champagne and fruit!

Nicol’s friend treated us to another surprise.  A waiter wheeled over a small cart bearing a bottle of champagne on ice, alongside a bowl of fresh fruit.  There were even some sparklers afire in this marvelous display of Italian hospitality.

The crowd thronging at the Gattopardo Milan

What a fun place!  The DJ played a great selection of music and everyone danced.

If you go to Milan, this is a best-kept secret of the It Crowd.  Maybe you’ll get in, and maybe you won’t…  But it wouldn’t hurt to try.
